Guidelines on the Use of Mobile Phones

Amicus recommend the following standards be adopted by companies:

  1. In providing employees with mobile phones a company should investigate to ensure that low radiation phones are provided.

  2. Where phones are used in a car, employees should be provided with external aerials and hands free facility.

  3. Users of mobile phones should be advised that extended use of phones could potentially be damaging to health.

  4. Employees should seek to minimise the number of calls made on mobile phones.

  5. In designing jobs, employees who will be expected to make a large number of calls should be given alternatives to mobile phone including payment of home phone bills. Where use of mobile phones is necessary employee should be supplied with a separate headset so that handsets do not have to be placed against the head.

  6. Companies should monitor the phone bills of mobile users to identify employees who may be using phones too extensively.
