Guidelines on the Use of Mobile Phones
Amicus recommend the following standards be adopted by companies:
- In providing employees with mobile phones a company should investigate to ensure that low radiation phones are provided.
- Where phones are used in a car, employees should be provided with external aerials and hands free facility.
- Users of mobile phones should be advised that extended use of phones could potentially be damaging to health.
- Employees should seek to minimise the number of calls made on mobile phones.
- In designing jobs, employees who will be expected to make a large number of calls should be given alternatives to mobile phone including payment of home phone bills. Where use of mobile phones is necessary employee should be supplied with a separate headset so that handsets do not have to be placed against the head.
- Companies should monitor the phone bills of mobile users to identify employees who may be using phones too extensively.
